Just make cool stuff | A(i)rtifacts Issue 2

A(i)rtifacts - Issue No.2

Hi,

“Just make cool stuff” - David Holz, founder of Midjourney

Indeed.

Let’s take a look at what is cooking - so we can make some cool stuff!

Midjourney

Aug 2 - Weekly Office Hours

v5.3
- still waiting for Discord to do the UI for inpainting
- will include a new aesthetic style and inpainting
- the good news: estimated release in about 2 weeks

v6
- work continues, and it’s close to being ready
- David prefers not to ship something that is “somewhat” good, rather he wants to ship when it’s good and ready - bigger and better
- Estimated release in about a month!

Website
- work in progress
- no release date

Mobile App
- will have a native iOS app and a non-native Android app
- the website will for on mobile too (that is, you don’t necessarily need an app)

Surveys
- Midjourney is asking the users to help them out and fill out surveys, aka personality tests - super interesting
- you can find the survey/s on their Discord at the moment, later they will be available on the website

One thing I did not mention on the Twitter recap: About 80% of Midjourney users are men.

I was surprised it was that high. What do you think?

Click/tap the button below for the full, more detailed recap of the office hours.

RunwayML

No major updates this last week, but here are a couple of things of note.

Your chance to get featured

If you’ve created a cool video using Gen-2, you can submit your results to Runway for a chance to get featured in their Community Spotlight. I know you have - I see you.

Here’s their Twitter - I mean X post about it. You could also post your video as a comment to this post - you know, extra views can help. 😃

RunwayML Academy, i.e., Tutorials

Video tutorials. A good amount of video tutorials - straight from Runway.

Kaiber AI

No major updates this week.

From last week: You can sign up to be a Kaiber Beta User Here for their new feature, ‘motion.’

Stable Diffusion

No major updates this week.

Learn Something New

The effect of Stylize parameter on Midjourney images

I also posted this on X. If you missed it, you can find my demo of the effects of stylize (low vs. high) on images.

From the Toolbox

I’m compiling art styles and movements on the website - think of it like a resource bank. These will include information about the style and also words you can add to your prompts.

When I think about abstract expressionism, I think of Jackson Pollock-type art. However, you can guide the prompt in Midjourney, to just about anywhere you want, with hints of this style in there.

Take a look 👇️

Here is a list of textures you can add to your prompts.

That wraps it up for this week. I hope you found this useful. That is my goal - to provide useful, practical information and insights that you can immediately put to use.

If you are on Twitter/X (one day, I’ll remember not to say Twitter 😆), and you use abstract expressionism or texture, please tag me; I’d love to see what you cook up!

Have a great weekend, and make cool stuff! ❤️
