A gym for imagination | A(i)rtifacts Issue 3

A(i)rtifacts - Issue No.3

Happy Friday,

This week’s soundbite comes from Claude 2.

Midjourney is a gym for imagination.

I thought that was pretty fitting.

It’s been a happening week. Let’s take a look.

Midjourney

Aug 9 - Weekly Office Hours

v5.3
- will include a new aesthetic style and inpainting (within Discord and possibly only for desktop)
- possible release next week!

v6
- work continues, they are adding more performance
- the grid size may change! Interesting tidbit 👉️ internally, MJ uses a larger initial grid
- no estimated release date at this point

Website
- a lot of people are working on the frontend
- it will be both for desktop and mobile
- it will look a lot different from Discord or what it currently is
- launch date is getting closer, but no release date at this point

Surveys
- Super interesting data
- e.g. older users tend to rate images
- 80% of users are men
- male and older biases in the ratings

Click/tap the button below for more demographic details + the full recap of the office hours.

Learn Something New - Explore

This is more of an adventure in the gym for imagination

I posted a Prompt Challenge on X (a new Friday series). The theme is Twins.
If you haven’t added “twins” into your prompts, I totally encourage you to explore this huge rabbit hole. I often use “twins” in completely random prompts.
Midjourney does a fantastic job with “twins” in the prompts. Here are some examples.

From the Toolbox

A quick tip to stash in your toolbox

Midjourney specific - confirmed by David (founder of MJ) - but may work for other image generators as well.

If you want to make an image less busy/less noisy, add ‘minimalism’ to the prompt. It tones things down.

But, also keep in mind that if you at the same time have a high —stylize value, the effect of minimalism is less profound.

I posted about this yesterday on X with examples.

NEWS

I will be speaking at the Artificial Conference in LA next week, Thu, Aug 17th. The topic is Prompting: Mastering the Machine. If you are coming to LA, come say Hi and chat. If you are joining in virtually 👋.

Here’s more information about the conference.

Have a great weekend, and imagine! ❤️
