AI Sandwich with a sprinkling of pickle juice

Friday, Jan. 12, 2024.

Today’s newsletter is a smorgasbord of AI, and until you bite in, you won’t know all that it entails.

Enjoy.

AI hype?

Is AI just hype, or what?

AI market size worldwide is expected to increase by almost 800% from now to 2030.

This year 2024 is said to be even better/crazier/wilder than 2023! Where will we be in 2030!!

So, probably not hype.

You are still early, but we are moving fast!

ChatGPT app vs. MS Copilot app

Basically, both are ‘the"‘ ChatGPT - one native, the other within Microsoft.

You can download the ChatGPT app by Open AI and access GPT-4 features ($20), or you can download Microsoft Copilot and get GPT-4 for free.

“Copilot’s launch hasn’t seemingly impacted ChatGPT’s installs or revenue as of yet.” Techcrunch

Personally, I have both. Current winner in my book > ChatGPT natively.

P.S. Make sure you are using GPT-4! GPT-3.5 is much worse.

For Creatives

Here’s a great experiment by Rory Flynn.

He compared Midjourney and Dall-e AI image generators with several super-long prompts to see which one had better prompt coherence.

The winner. Midjourney.

New AI text/image to video tool - Assistive

Another new text/image-to-video tool, Assistive, has entered the market. It looks very comparable to the other top tools (Runway, Pika, etc.), with fewer levers to manipulate the generations.

You will need to purchase a $18.99/month plan to access the video generation.

Top 10 Sandwiches in America

I did get hungry creating these… made with Midjourney v6.

Can you guess the number 1?

What’s your favorite sandwich? Mine is not included in this top 10 list.

Pickle juice not included.

ChatGPT Store, but with a Twist!

Me: Write a story in the style of The Onion about the GPT store launch. Make it about 300 words.

ChatGPT-4 (+ my editing):

OpenAI Launches 'Talk to a Wall' GPT Store in Silicon Valley

In a groundbreaking move that's shocked absolutely nobody, OpenAI has just launched its latest innovation: the GPT Store, a physical retail space where customers can buy conversations with an AI. In what experts are calling a 'bizarrely retro' move, the store, located in Silicon Valley, features rows of sleek terminals where shoppers can sit down and chat with GPT about anything from existential philosophy to the best recipe for lasagna.

The grand opening saw San Francisco tech enthusiasts and confused passersby alike lining up to get a taste of the future circa 1980. "I guess it's like talking to the smartest person in the world, but it’s a computer," said one passerby who didn’t seem to know what was going on or why they were even there.

Inside, the GPT Store looks like it was designed by OpenAI Ph.D. engineers who googled 'hip store design' but then didn’t know what to do with that info. With its plain white walls and basic office furniture, the store feels less like a trendy tech boutique and more like a server room where someone threw in a few bean bags for good measure.

The store's main and only attraction, the GPT Terminal, is like chatting with your know-it-all uncle, all and all an annoying and frustrating conversation you don’t even want to be a part of. One user reported having a rambling conversation about the meaning of life but was left questioning their life choices of entering the store.

In a statement, OpenAI said, 'With the GPT Store, we're taking AI where it's never gone before – to the mall. Why browse online when you can awkwardly chat with a computer in public?” “It's like time-traveling," said one customer, "but you only go back about 40 years, and the only thing that's changed is the computer.”

Critics have called the move baffling and totally unnecessary, pointing out that everyone already has access to GPT on their phones. But OpenAI is confident this new move will turn into gold, just like anything they do."

Hope you enjoyed it.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend! See you next week.

P.S. It is going to be freezing in Colorado this weekend. Hope you are staying warm wherever you are.
